Artist's Statement:
"Wisdom begins in wonder"
We live in a wonderful time to be an artists; a time of old and new.
Whether it is painting with ancient watercolour or new acrylics, or
painting electronically on an iPad; as artists are are trully blessed at
this point in history.

And we have so much history and great artists to draw on for
technique and inspiration.  I have been influenced by my instructors
over the years including Stefan Galvanek and Debbie Smith.  They
both provided me with inspiration to continue learning and to
experiment with new techniques.

So many artists that have influenced me over the years.  Here are a
few of my main inspirations:  Lucian Freud, Gustav Klimt, Egon
Schiele, David Hockney, Ken Howard, John Yardley, Ken Danby,
Mark Rothko, Chuck Close, etc…; and from history Carravagio, Van
Gogh, Vermeer, Monet, Manet, Cezanne, etc…

Medium and Technique:
My main medium is oil.  Whether it is a landscape or a portrait, the workability and flow of oil
make it a joy to use, and represents a connection to a long history of artists.
I also use acrylic paint and watercolour.  I like to use acrylic on its own or combined with gold
leaf, modeling paste, or objects found around the studio.
Thomas was born and raised in the Toronto, and currently lives in the Beach neighbourhood in
the east end of the city.  About 20 years ago, he began sculpting with wood and stone.  Sculpting
led to painting, and at the age of 40 he enrolled in the Fine Arts program at George Brown
College. Fascinated by all the different techniques he was discovering and with encouragement
from his instructors, Thomas began painting as often as he could.  After George Brown College,
Thomas studied painting and technique under Stefan Galvanek, a well known painter with a
studio in the west end of Toronto.

Thomas continues to work full time as an IT Project Manager with the Business Information
Group, but spends many late evenings painting and studying.

Each work - be it a portrait in oil, a landscape in acrylic or a wildlife study in watercolour - further
enhances his passion for painting.   “I love painting, from the initial formation of ideas, to the
stretching of canvas and finish varnishing”.
